外伸縮臂其特征主要在於:

1、外伸縮臂由上滑動臂與下固定臂兩部分構成,上滑動臂安裝在下固定臂上方,通過兩側滾輪及道軌上下組成活動體,通過伸縮缸的伸縮來推動上滑動體前後自由伸縮。

2、 其結構隻有一個固定體和一個或多個移動體,節為固定體,其餘的是移動體,移動體按其大小先後順序套入固定體內,原理是二節套入一節、三節套入二節….,通過伸縮缸使其有順序伸出或縮回;內伸縮臂其結構較複雜、生產成本較高,一般設計成兩節以上,用於深坑作業的抓取與揚土。其優點是增大了作業半徑以及挖掘深度。
